The Age of the Fapstronauts

Back in June 2011, Alexander Rhodes founded a subreddit called NoFap, an online community of men and women supporting each other to cut out pornography and masturbation from their lives. That community has since grown to nearly 150,000 people and has spawned the creation of NoFap.com.

Today, we talk with Alexander about the purpose of NoFap and the secret to its popularity.

Show Notes:

0:51 – What sparked the creation of NoFap?

  1. Jackie Doty

The interview is interesting and I am glad that as many people and companies as possible pay attention to the problems with pornography. I am now divorcing my husband because he has big problems with it. And he denies it. It is impossible to convince him, even after our children have found his “collection”! It’s not normal at all. Then your article https://www.covenanteyes.com/2021/04/12/5-common-questions-kids-ask-about-porn/ helped me a lot. And I don’t want to live with my husband anymore, if only he understood that he has a problem, but no. And first of all I have to take care of children, by the way this episode will be a good reason for divorce, I looked for information about this https://paonlinedivorce.com/grounds-for-divorce-in-pa/

It just so happened that porn destroyed not only a person’s personality, but also an entire family.

  2. Anne

While I commend NoFap for their success, I wish they would also make a section for the partners of addicts to encourage one another daily in order to deal from the hurt and betrayel we feel. My H has struggled for over a decade and we are currently separated in our home b/c this is the last straw for me.

I feel there is so much out there for the addicts, but what about those of us who suffer in silence??

    • Kay Bruner

Hi Anne, it’s true that often there is great attention to the needs of the addict in recovery, and less attention to the needs of spouses. Many women in this situation meet the criteria for PTSD, which means there is serious trauma involved that needs serious attention. Here are some resources I’d recommend: Personal counseling with a therapist just for YOU; a support group like Celebrate Recovery, S-Anon, or an online group like xxxChurch; our free downloads, like Hope After Porn.

  3. You are kidding me right?

We have gone back in time to an age where masturbation is evil. Never thought I would see the day when we make a colossal leap backwards. What is next? Burning books? Hunting witches?

America makes too big of a deal about porn. WASP mentality has really screwed up this country.

    • Masturbation was not demonized in this episode, nor does NoFap encourage abstaining from masturbation for life. NoFap is a website that helps porn addicts recover by providing tools for “rebooting”. Rebooting is the practice of abstaining from porn, masturbation, or even orgasming altogether -for a period of time-. Note the “for a period of time” because that does not mean “do not masturbate for the rest of your life” which again NoFap does not encourage.

Porn is the problem. Without porn, for most people masturbation would have never become a problem. I would suggest that you check out NoFap’s website for more information. Wish you all the best!

    • Ana

No, you are living in a dream world. You are the one who has not evolved. We are not animals, our brains are not prewired for this type of instinctual behavior. It is learned, like a baby learns new things. Porn is poison!
