Helping Her Heal by Dr. Doug Weiss (Review)

Last Updated: November 13, 2020

Helping Her Heal is a two-disc DVD set from noted sexual addiction expert Dr. Doug Weiss. It offers practical tools for hearing the wife, partner, or girlfriend’s pain, navigating her grief and losses, discovering her expectations of you and the boundaries she may need to heal. The two-hour teaching is full of practical suggestions and tips for the male sex addict.

Retail price is $69.00 + shipping. Considering an hour of counseling with a sexual therapist is $100-$200/hour, this is a bargain.

I recommend this for the husband, boyfriend, minister, and support group leader. It would be very easy to show this in a men’s support group in two or four sessions.

Helping Her Heal is available on Dr. Weiss’ website.

It’s so unfair for the spouse that there is so little FREE support in order to help her healing. I have spent so much money on support groups (it’s expensive to attend groups the don’t label you codependent or a co-addict), therapy not covered by insurance, and books on addiction and trauma. I would love to buy this DVD so badly so that my husband could get a real picture of how to help, because in my total shock it’s not always easy to even know what I need from him. I’m happy he’s getting help, and I try to learn as much as I can from the addict’s perspective, but he needs this so badly. Maybe one day there will be as much affordable help for spouses as there are for addicts. It hurts so much.

It is so very painful and I myself don’t care what a group labels me I find love and healing and acceptance at a COSA group. The women there know the pain – I encourage you to attend at least six meetings with an open mind. I don’t label myself. I simply acknowledge that I can’t do this alone. The bonds I have formed with these women are stronger in many ways than my cherished friends. No judging just the freedom to express your pain in a safe and loving and understanding environment. All my best from a sister in this deep and almost unbearable pain. There is hope.

There are free facebook support groups for partners of sex addicts or of Intimacy anorexics . You can get info on these from Heart to Heart -Dr. Weiss counseling place
