  1. Thanks Greg! I remember one of my secular 12 step groups and we used to say you are only as sick as your secrets. Lies and secrets do go together. In my group I was able to totally be honest about EVERYTHING in my life. I heard others talk about their insanity we called it. I talked about mine. We also heard that insanity was doing the same thing over and over and over again but expecting a different outcome. Good stuff, thank you. Steve

    • Steve, thanks so much for your comment and encouragement. I agree. Trying to recover in secrecy is one of the hardest things to try and do. Praying that men and women who read this post and others like it will be encouraged to bring the struggle into the light. -Greg

  2. I need help I can’t stay without watching porn and mastubating for two days..I have this urge to stop but I can’t I have tried several times but I couldn’t please advice me on how to stop myself from watching porn

    • Joe,
I myself am fighting this battle! I tried many times to quit on my own with no success. My first piece of advice is to find someone you trust preferably a Christian. Ask him to meet you and confess to him your addiction! Ask God to reveal the person to you. I spent weeks in prayer to God about who I should tell. Once I started confessing I couldn’t stop. I told him everything! The feeling of freedom was overwhelming. God Bless!
      Greg

    • Joe, The first step is to admit you have a problem. You have done so. Its a start.

I struggled with porn for many years. It almost destroyed my family. And I admit to going through everything said in this article. But my wife was awesome and helped me through the process. It was painful – no doubt – but it was worth it. We’ve been married for 15 years and things are going great now.

First thing I encourage you to do is download Covenant Eyes and get it working. Set it on a fairly high accountability setting. Just having something that blocks those “quick side trips” on the internet helps a lot.

Second, find a godly man, preferably your pastor if possible, and have a quiet talk with him about your struggle and your desire for freedom. You have admitted your problem here on the internet, npw you need to start sharing your secret. Only by getting it in the light can you destroy the darkness. And sharing with another man, a friend, or a pastor, is usually pretty easy because they get it.

Third, if you are married, I encourage you to ask your wife and pastor to meet with you and discuss this issue all together. Continue to shed light on the darkness and destroy it. Tell them you want to do right and you need their help.

Fourth, commit to Do whatever it takes to get free. If you can’t get Covenant Eyes working because you have a work computer – find a solution within 1 week, ask your boss for help, or quit your job and find something else. Commit to conquer porn or die trying.

Fifth… remember that WHEN you conquer this giant… he will want revenge. It wont be over in 1 fight. It will come at you time and again. But with each victory it WILL get easier. But you will have to keep your guard up. Because the enemy will try to capture you again.

      You can overcome.

  3. The writer of Hebrews also writes “If we deliberately keep on sinning after we have received the knowledge of the truth, no sacrifice for sins is left, but only a fearful expectation of judgement…” (Hebrews 10:26 and 7).
I believe there are consequences to deliberate sins and I still believe in the grace and mercy of God.
I am in a Celebrate Recovery group and have been free from acting out for half a month.
