A Step-by-Step Guide Away From Addiction
Crossroads is one of the latest resources from Ed Welch. It is an excellent written resource for addictions groups.
Welch speaks with both a wealth of biblical knowledge and a wealth of experience in this area. He is a counselor at the Christians Counseling and Educational Foundation. He has over two decades of counseling experience, a Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology with a neuro-psychology specialty, and a Master of Divinity degree. He is an author of numerous books and a professor of practical theology at Westminster Theological Seminary.
Crossroads also has a Facilitators Guide for those who are leading groups.

This is a good resource. I like it because (like his book “Addiction: A Banquet in the Grave”) it is applicable to a variety of addictive behaviors – the addict in us all. At the same time, it frequently pulls examples specifically from pornography and sexual addictions.
Dr. Welch speaks of the love and the mercy of God. I long to hear that powerful talk about the reality of God from someone in the counseling. I seldom hear “Christian Counselors” talk like this, but “Biblical Counselors” talk about God like he ACTUALLY makes a difference in their lives and the lives of their patients because they actually use God’s word.
Welch’s book is something I need to read.
What pulls me away from evil so many times is the AMAZING fact that God provides so much more pleasure than addictions or anything else in the world. “You will make known to me the path of life; In Your presence is fullness of joy; In Your right hand there are pleasures forever.” Psalm 16:11

@socrat – I totally agree. I love what you said about Psalm 16:11 and the pleasures of God. I preached a sermon not too long ago about “Holy Lust,” the longings for God that God gives us that expel our desire for sin.
