About two years ago the Journal of Adolescent Research published a study that examined the attitudes about pornography of 813 university students from six college sites across the US.
- 67% of young men and 49% of young women agreed that viewing pornography is acceptable.
- 87% of young men and 31% of young women reported using pornography.
- In general, the more men accepted and used pornography, the more likely they were to accept premarital and casual sexual behavior. Daily users of pornography had, on average, nearly five times more lifetime sexual partners than nonusers.
- Among women, there was a stronger correlation between pornography acceptance and sexual values than between pornography use and sexual values.
- For both men and women, pornography acceptance, not use, showed a significant correlation to family formation values (nonmarital cohabitation, conceiving children out of wedlock, financial independence between spouses, etc.)
