Recently I spoke with my friend Jan Villarubia about her new book, Porn Star on Welfare. Jan worked as an actress in the porn industry for about a year and half and made over 40 films. Since leaving the industry, she now volunteers with the Pink Cross Foundation, and reaches out to men and women who want to leave the adult industry.

After 2 and a half years of my husbands love of porn,I’m at breaking point.he blames me saying it’s because we havnt had sex for 2 years.the reason I’m not interested is because of the porn.my self esteem is zero.he knows I have body issues,knowing he’s looking at these women with perfect bodies,has left me feeling fat ugly and old.1 am 60,also he says he does it 2 wind me up.recently I couldn’t take any more,and drank much 2 much,he helped me into bed,and we ended up having sex.i did think perhaps it would stop him watching the pom.I was devastated when I found it on his phone 4 times over the next week.it was the straw that broke the camels back.when I told him I was at breaking point and hadn’t the sex meant anything,he said it didn’t count as I was DRUNK.he won’t budge over this at all.i feel the only way forward for me is to divorce him..it’s affecting my health badly.my confidence is zero.all he says is men watch porn when they don’t get sex.before the porn are sex life was great.
Hi Jan, I know you told some of this story on another post on our blog a couple days ago. I’m so sorry to hear about this situation you are in. What your husband is doing is awful. I highly recommend you read some of these articles. They pertain to your situation. Have you been able to read through any of these?
Do you think having an ex-porn star describe the hard core scenes she had to endure ie gang bang, is wise or productive in any way? I think it would serve as trigger for some people.
For sure, it could be a trigger for some people. I absolutely agree. I hope the disclaimer will keep people away if that is an issue.
The fine line we often walk is that we want to show the brutality of the industry, but often it is the brutality and misogyny that is actually a turn on for men who have been entrenched in porn for a long time. I know a man who got his first taste of porn on a seminary-sponsored trip to New York City where they showed the dark underworld of sex trafficking crimes. The very thing intended to disgust him also intrigued him.
Like I said, it is a fine line, and we don’t walk it perfectly. My prayer is that the video was edited with enough discretion that those who need to read her book will do so, and those who should stay away will not read it.
