What does “analyzing” mean?

You might glance at the Covenant Eyes menu on your device and see the word “Analyzing.” It could mean one of several things, none of which should cause you to worry. This article explains what you’re seeing, and, if necessary, the steps to take to ensure healthy accountability.

What does “analyzing” mean?

The “Analyzing” text appears when no screenshots have been captured during the past hour. This is how we’ve programmed the software. For example, if the screen of your device has been off for more than an hour and you decide to open our menu, then you’ll see the “Analyzing” message. To some people, the message can be a little misleading because it sounds like our app is not working. In reality, it simply means there was nothing to screenshot.

Scenario #1 – Your device has been asleep

Our app reports the number of screenshots taken in the previous hour. If you haven’t used your device during the past hour and the screen has been off, there hasn’t been anything for the Covenant Eyes app to screenshot. Once you unlock the screen and begin browsing again, you can reopen the Covenant Eyes app and you should find that the “analyzing” message has changed to tell you how many screenshots have been taken in the last hour. This is normal, expected behavior and there is nothing you need to do.

Scenario #2 – You need to enable/re-enable Screen Recording on Mac®

On the Mac platform, Covenant Eyes is required to have you manually allow us to take screenshots on your device. This is a step you would have completed when you initially installed and set up Covenant Eyes on your device. If you find that, even after browsing, the Covenant Eyes menu is still “analyzing,” then you may need to follow these steps again to allow our app to capture screenshots of your screen.

Scenario #3 – You need to enable/re-enable Screen Casting on Android™

On the Android platform, Covenant Eyes is required to have you manually allow us to take screenshots on your device. This is a step you would have completed when you initially installed and set up Covenant Eyes on your device. If you find that, even after browsing, the Covenant Eyes menu is still “analyzing,” then you may need to follow these steps again to allow our app to capture screenshots of your screen.

Scenario #4 – You require a special update (Windows)

This final scenario only applies to Windows users. If you find that the Covenant Eyes menu at the lower-right corner of your screen is stuck “analyzing,” you might require a special update to your operating system that supports our ability to take screenshots.
