How to solve the M211 error (Mac)

If you have seen the “Error M211: Connection intercepted” message, then this article is for you.

Why did you receive this message?

This error almost always indicates that you are at a hotspot, and have not agreed to the Terms of Use of the network.

The Covenant Eyes software has tried to contact the server, but the hotspot network has intercepted the attempt, and redirected it to their login page.

What do you do next?

You’ll need to agree to their Terms of Use. Here are two ways you can facilitate that:

  1. Reboot the Mac and then go straight to a site that is NOT your home page (example: go.com). You will be forcing the Terms of Use to show up again, so that you can accept them. Once you do, the network will stop intercepting Covenant Eyes’ attempt to connect with the Covenant Eyes server.
  2. Turn on your smartphones’s mobile hotspot. Connect your Mac to that mobile hotspot. Then go back to the wifi network and access go.com. You should be able to accept the Terms of Use, turn off your phone’s hotspot, and get back to browsing on your Mac.
