Norton 360 and Covenant Eyes

This page explains the process for configuring the 2021 version of Norton 360. For assistance, please reach out via chat, email, or phone.


To Install Covenant Eyes

  1. From the desktop, right-click the Norton icon in the system tray and a menu will pop up. Select “Disable Auto-Protect.”
  2. At the Security Request page, in the “Select the duration” drop-down menu choose “Until system restart” from the list and click the “OK” button.
  3. A confirmation will pop up and the Norton icon, in the system tray, should now have a red dot on it.
  4. Right-click the icon again and select “Disable Smart Firewall” from the menu.
  5. On the Security Request page, choose “Until system restart” from the Select the duration drop-down field and click the “OK” button.
  6. Norton may pop up a warning message about your computer being vulnerable. You are safe to install Covenant Eyes. Once you install Covenant Eyes and customize Norton (by following the instructions in this article), please restart the computer. Doing so will automatically turn Norton back on.

Excluding Covenant Eyes from Auto-Protect or SONAR Scan

  1. From the Norton homepage, click the “Settings” tab at the top of the page.
  2. You will want to select the “Antivirus” option on the Settings page.
  3. On the Antivirus page choose the “Scans and Risks” tab.
  4. Under Scans and Risks scroll down to the Exclusions/Low Risks section. Please click the “Configure [+]” link next to the option named “Items to Exclude from Auto-Protect, Script Control, SONAR, and Download Intelligence Detection.”
  5. Norton should open up the Real Time Exclusions window. You will want to click the “Add Files” button.
  6. The Add Item screen will pop up. Click the open folder button to continue.
  7. Move down the down the directory (list of files) to the Covenant Eyes folder. You can do that by clicking open the following:  This PC > Local Disk (C:) or OS (C:) > Program Files > CE.
    Once you open the CE folder, please choose one of the three required files and click the “OK” button:
    – CovenantEyes.exe
    – CovenantEyesClassifier.exe
    – CovenantEyesCommService.exe
  8. The file path should appear on the Add Item screen. Click the “OK” button.
  9. The file should now be seen on the Real Time Exclusions window, click the “Add Files” button to add another file.
  10. Once these three (3) files are listed in the Real Time Exclusions window, click the “OK” button to save the exclusions and close the screen:
    – CovenantEyes.exe
    – CovenantEyesClassifier.exe
    – CovenantEyesCommService.exe

Excluding Covenant Eyes from Scans

  1. From the Norton homepage, click the “Settings” tab at the top of the page.
  2. On the Settings page you will want to select the “Antivirus” option.
  3. Now choose the “Scans and Risks” tab.
  4. Under Scans and Risks scroll down to the Exclusions/Low Risks section. Find the “Items to Exclude from Scans” options and click the “Configure [+]” link.
  5. Norton should bring up the Scan Exclusions window. You will want to click the “Add Folders” button.
  6. The Add Item screen will pop up. Click the open folder button to continue.
  7. Move down the down the directory (list of files) to the Covenant Eyes folder. You can do that by clicking open the following:  This PC > Local Disk (C:) or OS (C:) > Program Files > CE.
    Choose the CE folder and click the “OK” button.
  8. The CE folder file path should appear in the Add Item screen. Click the “OK” button.
  9. Once the CE folder file path is on the Scan Exclusions window, click the “OK” button to save the addition and close the screen.

Allowing Covenant Eyes through the Firewall

  1. From the Norton homepage, click on the “Settings” tab at the top of the page.
  2. On the Settings page select the “Firewall” option.
  3. Norton should bring up the Firewall Settings screen. Click the “Program Control” tab.
  4. On the Program Control tab, scroll down the list until you find the three (3) files you need from Covenant Eyes:
    – CovenantEyes.exe
    – CovenantEyesClassifier.exe
    – CovenantEyesCommService.exe
  5. If the necessary files are there and Access permission for each one is set to “Allow,” then you are done! Click “Close.” But if a file is missing, then proceed to Step 6.
  6. For any file which is missing from the list, click the “Add” button in the lower left-hand corner.
  7. Move down the down the directory (list of files) to the Covenant Eyes folder. You can do that by clicking open the following:  This PC > Local Disk (C:) or OS (C:) > Program Files > CE.
    Choose the missing CE file and click the “OK” button.
  8. You should now see Norton’s Security Alert page. In the Options drop-down field, select “Allow always” and click the “OK” button.
  9. That Covenant Eyes file should now appear on the list.
    Once the necessary Covenant Eyes files are present on the Program Control list and (A) set to Allow, then (B) click the “Apply” button
    Finally, you can (C) click “Close” on the Firewall Settings page.
