Malwarebytes and Covenant Eyes

This page explains the process for configuring the 2021 version of Malwarebytes. The free version is perfectly compatible, but the Premium and Trial versions have caused random compatibility issues. For assistance, please reach out via chat, email, or phone.


To Install Covenant Eyes

  1. From the desktop screen, right-click the Malwarebytes icon in the system tray and select “Quit Malwarebytes” from the pop-up menu.
  2. After a moment, the Malwarebytes icon should disappear. You can now install Covenant Eyes.

Making Covenant Eyes a Protected Application

  1. From the Malwarebytes home page, click the gear icon in the upper, right-hand corner.
  2. On the Settings page, click the “Security” tab.
  3. On the Security tab, scroll down to the Exploit Protection section and click the “Managed protected applications” button.
  4. The Protected applications list should pop up. If Covenant Eyes is not on the Default list, then select the Custom tab.
  5. Now click the “Add” button. You will put six (6) Covenant Eyes files on the list.
  6. Malwarebytes will give you the Add an application form. A) In the Application name field, enter the name of the Covenant Eyes file you wish to add first. B) Click the “Browse” button.
    To ensure full compatibility, you will need to have three (3) files on the list. Malwarebytes will let you put in one at a time.
    – CovenantEyes.exe
    – CovenantEyesClassifier.exe
    – CovenantEyesCommService.exe
  7. On the left side, you’ll click open several items to make the CE folder appear: This PC > OS (C:) > Program Files.
    Now select the Covenant Eyes file, and click the “Open” button.
  8. Pick one of the three files and click “Open.”
  9. That file should now appear in the Application file field.
  10. Click the Program type field and a pop-up menu will appear, click “Other.”
  11. With all the fields now filled out, click the “Add” button at the bottom.
  12. The Covenant Eyes file should now be added to the list.
  13. Repeat the previous steps until all three Covenant Eyes files are on the list.

    – CovenantEyesCommService.exeThen click the “Done” button to save the updates to the list.

Excluding Covenant Eyes from Future Detection

  1. From the Malwarebytes home page, click the gear icon in the upper, right-hand corner.
  2. On the Settings page, select the “Allow List” tab.
  3. Scroll through the list to see if Covenant Eyes is there. If it is not, you will need to click the “Add” button.
  4. When the Add an item to your Allow list screen appears, click the “Allow a file or folder” tile.
  5. Malwarebytes should bring up the Add a file or folder to your Allow List page. Click the “Select a folder” button.
  6. You’ll click open several items to make the CE folder appear: This PC > OS (C:) > Program Files. Now select the Covenant Eyes file, and click the “Select Folder” button.
  7. Back at the Add a file or folder to your Allow List page, the path to the CE folder should be in the Select a file or folder field. Make sure the Exclusion rules section is set to ‘Exclude from all detections’ and click the “Done” button.
  8. Once Covenant Eyes has been added to the Allow List, you can close the Malwarebytes windows.
