ESET and Covenant Eyes

This page explains the process for configuring the 2020 version of ESET. For assistance, please reach out via chat, email, or phone.


To Install Covenant Eyes

  1. On the desktop screen, right click the ESET icon in the system tray and select the “Pause protection” option.
  2. ESET should present a warning about disabling the protection. To insure you have enough time, (A) select “Pause until reboot” from the drop-down menu. When you have the time frame selected, (B) click the “Apply” button.
  3. A red dot will appear on the ESET system tray icon to indicate that it is disabled. You should now be able to smoothly install Covenant Eyes.

Excluding Covenant Eyes from Host Intrusion Protection System (HIPS)

  1. Open up the ESET program and click “Setup” in the left-side menu.
  2. On the Setup page, click the “Advanced Setup” option in the lower right corner.
  3. On the left side of the Advanced setup page, click the “HIPS” option. Then, in the Deep Behavioral Inspection section, click the word “Edit” next to Exclusions.
  4. If Covenant Eyes is not on the Exclusions list, click the “Add” button.
  5. ESET should bring you to the Add exclusion window. To add Covenant Eyes, click the three horizontal dots (…) in the Exclusions field.
  6. By clicking the plus (+) symbol, open the files (C:\ > Program Files) so you can see and select the CE folder. Now click the “OK” button.
  7. With the file path in the Exclusions field, click the “OK” button.
  8. Once you have the CE folder added to the Exclusions list, click the “OK” button.
  9. When you return to the Advanced setup page, click the “OK” button to make sure the changes take effect.

Excluding Covenant Eyes from Real-Time File System Protection

  1. From the ESET home page, click “Setup” in the left side menu.
  2. On the Setup page, select the “Computer protection” option.
  3. At the Computer protection window, click the drop-down arrow by the gear for Real-time file system protection options and select “Edit exclusions…” from the menu.
  4. When the Detection exclusions window comes up, if Covenant Eyes is not on the list. click the “Add” button.
  5. ESET should bring you to the Add exclusion page. You will need to click the three horizontal dots on the Path line.
  6. By clicking the plus (+) symbol, open the files (C:\ > Program Files) so you can see and select the CE folder. Now click the “OK” button.
  7. You should come back to the Add exclusion window with the CE folder path in the Path field. Write Covenant Eyes in the Detection name field and click the “OK” button.
  8. Once the CE folder is listed on the Detection exclusions page, click the “OK” button and close the ESET windows.

Making Covenant Eyes an Excluded Application

  1. From the ESET home page, click “Setup” from the left side menu.
  2. On the Setup page, click the “Advanced Setup” link in the lower right corner.
  3. On the Advanced Setup page, select “Web and Email” from the left side menu. Then click the “Edit” link next to “Excluded applications.”
  4. On the Excluded applications window, see if Covenant Eyes  is listed. If Covenant Eyes is not listed, select the “Add” button in the lower left.
  5. On the Add application window, select “C:\Program Files\CE\CovenantEyes.exe”  and then hit the “OK” button in the lower right.
  6. On the Excluded applications window, “C:\Program Files\CE\CovenantEyes.exe” should be listed. Repeat step #5 until three (3) Covenant Eyes files have been added and then select “OK” in the lower right.
    The three files are:
    – CovenantEyes.exe
    – CovenantEyesClassifier.exe
    – CovenantEyesCommService.exe

Allowing Covenant Eyes through the Firewall

  1. From the ESET home page, click “Setup” from the left side menu.
  2. On the Setup page, select the “Network protection” option.
  3. On the Network Protection page, click the gear icon on the “Firewall” line and select “Configure…” from the menu.
  4. At the “Firewall” settings, scroll down and select the “Application Modification Detection” section.
  5. Under the Application Modification Detection section, select the “Edit” link.
  6. ESET should bring up the List of applications excluded from checking window. Click the “Add” button in the bottom left.
  7. ESET should display the Add exclusion window. Click on the three horizontal dots.
  8. On the “Add exclusion” window, select “C:\Program Files\CE\CovenantEyes.exe”  and then hit the “OK” button in the lower right.
  9. On the List of applications excluded from checking window, “C:\Program Files\CE\CovenantEyes.exe” should be listed. Repeat step #8 until each one of the three  necessary Covenant Eyes files have been added and then select “OK” in the lower right.
    The three files are:
    – CovenantEyes.exe
    – CovenantEyesClassifier.exe
    – CovenantEyesCommService.exe
