Comodo and Covenant Eyes

This page explains the process for configuring the 2021 version of Comodo. For assistance, please reach out via chat, email, or phone.


To Install Covenant Eyes

  1. Before you install Covenant Eyes, temporarily disable Comodo by right-clicking on the Comodo icon from the Windows toolbar.
  2. From the menu, select the “Exit” option.
  3. Comodo will ask you to confirm your request to close it. Select “Yes” on the prompt.
  4. The Comodo icon will disappear from the Windows toolbar. You can now install Covenant Eyes.

Allowing Covenant Eyes through the Host Intrusion Protection System (HIPS)

  1. From the Comodo home page, select the “Settings” option.
  2. From the Advanced Settings page, select “HIPS” from the left-hand side menu.
  3. From the HIPS sub-menu, select (A) “HIPS Rules” and then the (B) “+Add” button.
  4. From the HIPS Rules page, select “Browse” button in the top, right-hand corner.
  5. From the Browse sub-menu, select “Applications.”
  6. To open up the CE (Covenant Eyes) folder, click the following:  This PC > OS (C:) > Program Files > CE. Select one of these three required Covenant Eyes files, the name will automatically go in the File name area, and you can click the “Open” button:
    – CovenantEyes.exe
    – CovenantEyesClassifier.exe
    – CovenantEyesCommservice.exe
  7. On the HIPS Rules page, The Covenant Eyes file name should be listed. Select the “OK” button. The Covenant Eyes file will then be added to the HIPS Rules List. Repeat steps 5-10 until all the necessary Covenant Eyes files are added.

Excluding Covenant Eyes from Auto-Containment

  1. From the Comodo home page, select the “Settings” option.
  2. From the Advanced Settings page, select “Containment” from the left-hand side menu.
  3. From the Containment sub-menu, select “Containment Settings.”
  4. From the Containment Settings page, check the box next to “Do not virtualize access to the specified files/folders” and then select “the specified files/folders.”
  5. From the Manage Exclusions page, select the “+Add” button.
  6. From the +Add sub-menu, select “Folders.”
  7. To open up the CE (Covenant Eyes) folder, click the following:  This PC > OS (C:) > Program Files > CE. Then select “OK.”
  8. On the Manage Exclusions page, C:\Program Files\CE\* should be listed. Select the “OK” button.
  9. From the Containment Settings page, check the box next to “Do not virtualize access to the specified registry keys/values” and then select “the specified registry keys/values.”
  10. From the Manage Exclusions page, select the “+Add” button.
  11. From the +Add sub-menu, select “Registry Entries.”
  12. From the Select Registry Keys page, press the arrow (>) next to “HKEY_CURRENT_USER” to expand the registry folder.
  13. From the HKEY_CURRENT_USER sub-menu, select the arrow (>) next to “SOFTWARE” to expand the registry folder.
  14. From the SOFTWARE sub-menu, scroll down and select “Covenant Eyes” so it’s highlighted.
  15. From the middle of the Select Registry Keys page, click on the arrow that’s pointing to the right. This should add HKCU\SOFTWARE\Covenant Eyes\* to the right-side of the page.
  16. Repeat steps 12-15 to add the following registry keys as registry exclusions:
        HKLM\SOFTWARE\Covenant Eyes, Inc.\*  (HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SOFTWARE > Covenant Eyes, Inc.)
        HKLM\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Covenant Eyes, Inc.\* (HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SOFTWARE > WOW6432Node > Covenant Eyes, Inc.)
  17. In the bottom, right-hand corner of the Select Registry Keys page, press the “OK” button.
  18. On the Manage Exclusions page, select the “OK” button to save the Covenant Eyes registry key exclusions.

Excluding Covenant Eyes from Shellcode Injection Scanning

  1. From the Comodo home page, select the “Settings” option.
  2. From the Advanced Settings page, select “Advanced Protection” from the left-hand side menu.
  3. From the Advanced Protection menu, select “Miscellaneous.”
  4. From the Miscellaneous page, check the box next to “Do detect shellcode injections in these applications” and then select “these applications.”
  5. From the Manage Exclusions page, select the “+Add” button.
  6. From the +Add sub-menu, select “Folders.”
  7. To open up the CE (Covenant Eyes) folder, click the following:  This PC > OS (C:) > Program Files > CE. Then select “OK.”
  8. On the Manage Exclusions page, C:\Program Files\CE\* should be listed. Select the “OK” button.

Excluding Covenant Eyes from the Virus Scanner and Realtime Scanning

  1. From the Comodo home page, select the “Settings” option.
  2. From the Advanced Settings page, select “Advanced Protection” from the left-hand side menu.
  3. From the Advanced Protection menu, select “Scan Exclusions.”
  4. From the Exclusions page, select the “Excluded Paths.”
  5. From the Exclusions page, select the “+Add” button.
  6. From the +Add sub-menu, select “Folders.”
  7. To open up the CE (Covenant Eyes) folder, click the following:  This PC > OS (C:) > Program Files > CE. Then select “OK.”
  8. On the Exclusions page, C:\Program Files\CE\* should be listed.
  9. From the Exclusions page, select the “Excluded Applications.”
  10. From the Exclusions page, select the “+Add” button.
  11. From the +Add sub-menu, select “Applications.”
  12. To open up the CE (Covenant Eyes) folder, click the following:  This PC > OS (C:) > Program Files > CE. Select one of these three required Covenant Eyes files, the name will automatically go in the File name area, and you can click the “Open” button:
    – CovenantEyes.exe
    – CovenantEyesClassifier.exe
    – CovenantEyesCommservice.exe
  13. On the Exclusions page, The Covenant Eyes file name you selected should be listed. Repeat steps 11-13 until all the necessary Covenant Eyes files are added.
  14. On the Exclusions page, select the “OK” button to save the Covenant Eyes files as exclusions.

Managing the Rating for the Covenant Eyes Executables

  1. From the Comodo home page, select the “Settings” option.
  2. From the Advanced Settings page, select “File Rating” from the left-hand side menu.
  3. From the File Rating menu, select “File List.”
  4. From the File List page, select the “+Add” button.
  5. From the +Add sub-menu, select “Files.”
  6. To open up the CE (Covenant Eyes) folder, click the following:  This PC > OS (C:) > Program Files > CE. Select one of these three required Covenant Eyes files, the name will automatically go in the File name area, and you can click the “Open” button:
    – CovenantEyes.exe
    – CovenantEyesClassifier.exe
    – CovenantEyesCommservice.exe
  7. From the Add Files window, select the bubble next to “Trusted” and then press the “OK” button.
  8. On the File List page, The Covenant Eyes file name you selected should be listed. Repeat steps 4-7 until all the necessary Covenant Eyes files are added.
  9. On the File List page, select the “OK” button to save the Covenant Eyes files as exclusions.

Disabling the Filter Loopback Traffic Option

  1. From the Comodo home page, select the “Settings” option.
  2. From the Advanced Settings page, select “Firewall” from the left-hand side menu.
  3. From the Firewall menu, select “Firewall Settings.”
  4. From the Firewall Settings page, un-check the box next to “Filter loopback traffic (e.g. 127.x.x.x : : 1)” and select the “OK” button.
