How is the Covenant Eyes Android™ App Different than the iPhone® App?

Last Updated: April 1, 2014

The big difference between our Android™ app and our iPhone® app is the Android app runs in the background and monitors other apps on the device. It monitors select browsers, keeping track of all the websites visited. It also monitors how long you use other apps each day. (Update for April 2014: The Android app also has the ability to lock down other apps on the device.)

Our iPhone app is a browser that only monitors itself.

The video below address other questions about our Android app, such as:

  • What does the app monitor on Android devices?
  • On which devices does the app work?
  • What are the latest improvements?

How do I get an incognito block for my moto e Verizon 4glte phone and or chrome browser. I have the covenant eyes app but it appears it doesn’t track incognito mode. This is a big concern.

    • Annelise Hoshal

      Hi Erica,

Presently there is no way to block a user from placing their browser in incognito mode, however if you are running the latest version our android application it is going to be able to monitor incognito mode. The best way to see if you’re running the latest version is by going into the Google Play Store and checking your updates. If need any further assistance or still have concerns please feel free to call our toll free number 877-479-1119 to speak with Customer Service.

My son is using ingognito to look at porn I need to know when you will be able to fix this problem on androids. Now he knows he can get away with it. I have tried everything.

    • Jake Shotrosky

      Hi Desera,
We recently published a new version of our Android app that addresses this issue and look forward to having it be available on Google Play very soon. In the mean time, you can get the download by clicking this link here while on your son’s device. You will want to enable Unknown Sources on your son’s device before installing because Android devices, by default, will only let you install apps from the Play Store. Another side effect of installing our app in this fashion is that you may receive a warning that the app can be used to spy on you. You will want to disregard this warning because that’s basically what you are using Covenant Eyes for, i.e., monitoring your son.

I hope this reply has proved helpful. If you have any other tech questions, please pay us a visit on our Customer Help Forum.

If your developers are having a hard time keeping up with all the incognito features in browsers (mobile and otherwise), a good feature to have as an addition (if not an alternative) would be one that flagged all searches using an incognito tab. After all the service is a combination of technology and face to face accountability. If you set the user to be flagged for using the incognito tab, then they would simply need to commit to not using it. I am sure that there are legitimate uses of incognito but I am having a hard time thinking of any really substantial reason to use one except for the the obvious.

    • Thanks for your thoughts on keeping us ahead of the curve on this.
