Covenant Eyes and the Windows 10 Anniversary Update

Last Updated: August 10, 2021

UPDATE: As of September 8, 2016, a fix for this issue is available. Download it in My Account.

On August 2, Microsoft released an “Anniversary Update” to Windows 10. It boasts not just security updates, but also a lot of new features, like better Cortana integration, cross-platform gaming innovations for Xbox One users, and lots more.

This update also features a whole host of bugs. Forbes, for example, reports that some users can’t boot their machines after installing this update. At least two antivirus companies also report issues. And, unfortunately, Covenant Eyes was among the many programs affected by this update.

How Covenant Eyes is Impacted, and What We’re Doing About It

Covenant Eyes users who have installed the Windows 10 Anniversary Update have reported a couple of issues. Some have mentioned getting a security warning when going to HTTPS sites (like, say, Facebook). Others have been unable to install Covenant Eyes at all.

We’ve already tracked down the issue, but the fix needs to go through some Windows protocols before we can release our update. Because we’re not the only ones with this same issue, we have no way of knowing where we are in Microsoft’s queue. We may be able to release our fix later today, or it may take a week. Unfortunately, at this point it’s out of our hands.

What You Can Do

So if you use a Windows computer, what can you do about this issue?

  • If you haven’t already installed the Anniversary Update, don’t! You’ll save yourself a lot of grief, both with Covenant Eyes and with other programs. Keep an eye on tech blogs, and wait for Microsoft to release a more stable version.
  • If you already installed the Anniversary Update, you have a brief period to roll back to your previous version of Windows 10. Learn more here.

If you have any questions or need help, call us toll-free in the U.S. at 877.479.1119 (internationally at 1.989.720.8000). And keep an eye out for an update to Covenant Eyes for Windows, coming soon.

It’s May 2018 and CE still doesn’t work properly with Windows 10. Now it’s killing Firefox. This is outrageous.

    • Chris McKenna

Hi, Barry – we’re not aware of any Windows bugs as you describe. Can you please call customer service at 877-479-1119 for assistance? Thank you.

      Chris

  2. Pat

Is there a fix in place for the security warnings in Windows 10 Anniversary Edition now? I only ask out of curiosity because I’m seeing them pop up frequently on an older build of CE but I am unable to upgrade due to my job and school’s use of VPN clients, but Windows 10 may have broken that ability for me even with older versions of CE… I’ve sent an email to support@covenanteyes but part of me worries that monkeying around with my current install while running the latest stable build of W10 will cause even more of a headache than simply discontinuing the Covenant Eyes service all together.

Furthermore, do you think there is any possibility that newer builds of CE will support Cisco AnyConnect and/or other VPN services in some fashion? Perhaps allowing something as simple as having an accountability partner enter a password to enable use of said utilities temporarily while still blocking everything else? I only ask because I have run in to a lot of issues with CE and VPN clients, even before upgrading to Windows 10 and would like to keep using the service but would also like to stray away from experiencing and troubleshooting one issue after another while trying to do homework.

  3. Kevin

The Windows digital assistant, Cortana, seems to have lost the ability to access the Internet. I am running on the newest Windows version. This happened as soon as I installed Covenant Eyes and has persisted to the present. Is that due to Covenant Eyes programming as a whole, my particular Covenant Eyes perimeters, or probably not related at all? If the second option, could you pinpoint which perimeter is blocking her so I can look into changing it? Thanks!

    • Chris McKenna

Hello, Kevin – I’m so sorry this is such a slow response, but I hope that you contacted customer service? The number is 1-877-479-1119.

  4. Scott

You know… Microsoft has been releasing alpha and beta builds of Windows 10 anniversary update for more than six months. Did you guys not bother to participate in that? Since your product hinges on Windows compatibility….

    • Chris McKenna

Hi Scott, we have been and continue to work through the bugs. Doing the best we can! We just wanted to keep our members updated. Have a great day.

      Peace, Chris

  5. Joe

Any ETA when the update will be released?

    • Annelise Hoshal

      Hello Joe,

Thank you for contacting us! Good news! We do have an update that will resolve the Windows 10 anniversary issue! Please contact our Customer Service at 877.479.1119 and we’ll be more than happy to assist you!
