A recent article from Telegraph.co.uk reported about the high number of Wall Street bankers who are coping with economic stresses by turning to sex addiction.

For example, Jonathan Alpert, a Manhattan psychotherapist reports that he has seen a threefold increase in the number of Wall Street workers seeking help for their sex addiction in the last six months. Jodi Conway, a sex addiction specialist in New Jersey, also reports about an increase of sexually related coping mechanisms among bankers such as Wall Street financiers who have been caught looking at pornography on their work laptops.

Pornography is, for many, a coping mechanism. “Escape” is the key word here. Like drugs, pornography offers people an escape from reality, a fantasy world of retreat. Often just identifying what we are trying to escape from can be the way we get to the root of our addiction.
