Testimony from Ireland: The Power of Accountability

Last Updated: February 21, 2014

It is always so encouraging to hear stories about how Covenant Eyes is having an effect all over the globe. I have received a series of very encouraging emails from a man named Matt Roche in Ireland. He wanted me to share his story with our readers.

Hi Luke,

Greetings from Ireland.

Luke, I spent the best part of my life working as a chef, thirty years in fact. In those years I had access to pornographic material, but nothing prepared me for the flood of pornography that I have encountered on the Internet. I found the temptation extremely strong and overpowering, and once I gave in to it, the guilt I experienced would paralyze my Christian walk until I came to that place once more of confessing my sin to the Lord and repenting of it.

Because of my work shift, when I arrived home everyone was in bed, and I would always end up on the Internet, which became habit forming.

This has gone on for years with no real solution to the problem.

The greatest relief I have encountered was when a friend of mine, a pastor in a small church here in Ireland, shared the tremendous work that Covenant Eyes was involved in. He suggested Covenant Eyes to me, as he is a member himself, and explained the tremendous benefits of being accountable to another person who monitors all of your Internet activity.

There is such a godly blessing and a deep peace in being accountable to another believer, especially in this area of the innermost desires of the sinful nature.

I now find that when I place my head on the pillow after a trying day, my mind is at peace, and I don’t have those images of pornography flashing through my mind and tormenting me to the extent that I don’t get a good night’s sleep.

Now I experience the word of God continually washing and cleansing my mind, for I have repented of my sin, and my life bears fruit that corresponds with repentance.

I want to thank you and all of your colleagues at Covenant Eyes for the freedom and peace of mind you have given me as I work on my computer. Without hesitation and with a deep sense of gratitude, I tell everyone of your wonderful ministry to those who are weak in this area of temptation. I don’t know if you truly, fully comprehend the all important work that you are involved in, but because of your commitment to the Lord in this area, I am now a keen witness for the Lord Jesus Christ.

With deepest sincerity

Matt
