Today, February 12, is Safer Internet Day, organized by Insafe, a European network the promotes Internet safety awareness.  “Safer Internet Day takes place each year in February and is an opportunity to dedicate some time in schools to reflect on some of the issues and more importantly to raise awareness of them” (from the Insafe website).

In 2007, 43 countries from all over the world participated in Safer Internet Day.

Insafe’s website contains information that is organized to help parents and teachers engage in a more meaningful dialog with young people about Internet safety issues such as social networking sites, blogs, pornography, cyberbullying, chat, file sharing, parental controls, and spam.
