With Covenant Eyes, I can let my kids surf safely...

Kids

I just thought I'd let you know that I have begun using Covenant Eyes Filter software as of this morning. About two months ago I took Windows Parental Controls off our Windows machines. Things went well for a couple months but around a week ago I found a note from Ben in my bathroom cabinet of all places in which he admitted to looking at websites of an adult character. I put Windows Parental Controls back on but, while they can certainly control what browsing possibilities one has, they also have to be run on a non-administrator account. The difficulty there is that kids sometimes need to install things, etc., and they can't because they are not administrators. A frustration.

Covenant Eyes Filter is the best of all possible worlds, I think. It does not have to be run on a non-administrator account, meaning anyone can perform needed tasks on Windows (without removing Covenant Eyes). When the Filter is set on normal configuration, it restricts surfing to all sites that it would otherwise report on.

But the Filter is even better than that. For instance, with Windows Parental Controls, we could keep our kids off Google because the Image Search feature is a veritable smorgasbord of porn. But that meant that we couldn't go to Google at all, any of its sites. That was a bit restrictive since I like Google docs and Google mail, not to mention search. But with the Filter, I can use Google while the Image Search feature is off limits. Same for Yahoo, too.

On top of it all, it does all this while continuing to issue reports to accountability partners like always.
