Letter to College Leaders

You are here: Resources / Statistics and Dangers

Dear college leader,

When it comes to online sexual temptation, today we live in particularly difficult and ominous times. This issue is vital to families and church leaders, Christian college staff and students, and individuals all across N. America. Online pornography is the 'cocaine' for the eyes, an addictive substance that brings difficulty, divorce, and destruction to hundreds of thousands of people each year. Covenant Eyes is recommended by "Focus on The Family, "Promise Keepers", and many others across N. America. Students and staff at numerous Christian colleges have greatly benefited from Covenant Eyes. Thank you for taking a few moments to review this important information.

A few recent facts on Internet pornography:

WHY ARE COLLEGES AND STUDENTS AT RISK?

-Five factors driving cybersex addiction: accessibility, isolation, secrecy, affordability, and fantasy.

-Students were most are risk to cybersex compulsions due to a combination of factors-- increased access to computers, more private leisure time, no accountability with online use, and developmentally at a stage characterized by increased sexual awareness.

We submit to you that Colleges and Universities and their leaders need to recognize this increase in vulnerability and institute prevention strategies.

Q~ Is your college or university providing software tools that monitor and hold the student accountable for their Internet usage?

Q~ Filtering provides some help, but are you aware that most filters can be bypassed? Filters do not promote accountability, and don't build self-control or self-discipline.

Q~ Is the cost of implementing a prevention strategy overwhelming and out of reach? Not sure where to begin?

We are here to serve you and we have the answers to these questions and others that you may have. Our passion is to inform, educate, and alert people everywhere about Internet danger and the Covenant Eyes program.

How does it work?

Covenant Eyes is a software program that is downloaded from our website at: www.covenanteyes.com. The program tracks and records all website visits, filesharing and newsgroup activity, scores each website for pornography, and then emails a report of this activity to 1 or 2 accountability partner(s) that the person chooses when enrolling in the program. The program is extremely difficult to bypass, designed to contact the accountability partner when the uninstall code is generated, and builds self-control, self-discipline and personal accountability.

What's involved in getting set up?

Covenant Eyes is a proven software program costing pennies a day per student to implement. The cost of the program is billed monthly to the college. The college collects the money for the service by adding this small fee onto the student's tuition or lab fees. The fee is $2.50/mo US/ $3.50/mo Canadian per student. (Approx 8 cents per day.)

There are various ways to enroll the students onto Covenant Eyes. The best time to implement the program is in August/ Sept when new and returning students are enrolling, or at the beginning of winter, spring, or summer term. Other options are available besides the above-mentioned approach to implementing the program.
