Building a Bridge With a Son Through Accountability

One of the key aspects of accountability is that it opens doors for communication.  It “breaks the ice,” so to speak.  It does this even for people who never get a high-scoring site, simply allowing the partner to ask the question, “How are you doing?”
Well, in this case, a son was indeed looking at pornography, [...]

Been Gone Awhile

I see by the date of my last post it’s been a while since I’ve added anything here.  My life has always been busy, but now it’s tighter than ever.  I found out a year and a half ago that I have cancer, a slow-growing but incurable form of lymphoma.  Though incurable, the doctors are [...]

Jack M. Samad (1953 – 2008)

A soldier has fallen…  there are few organizations which are wholly dedicated to the issue of pornography and protection of children and families, but the National Coalition for the Protection of Children and Families is one of them.

Improvement on ‘Quick Look’ Rating

As I’ve mentioned in previous entries, it’s quite an awesome task trying to reduce a person’s entire Internet use over a week’s time down to one number between 0 and 5, but basically that’s what we try to do with our ‘Quick Look.’
The algorithm that accomplishes this takes into account the scores of sites you [...]

A Bit More on Postmodernism and Physics

I previously wrote a little about the influence that modern quantum theory has had on current worldviews.  In particular, I believe it has had a much more profound effect than people realize, especially with regard to postmodernism.  Postmodernism is generally characterized by narcissism and relativism - there is no absolute truth, and whatever I am [...]

Ode to Agile Programming

There was a programmer named Scott
Whose agility gets done a lot.
It’s not a surprise
That Covenant Eyes
Is the best filter anyone’s got.
Now it happens that programmer Scott
Knows C+, Basic, Pascal, and Jot.
And in his mind resides
Some others besides,
Which is why he’s called “Scott Polyglot!”

New Staff in the Scoring Department

Covenant Eyes has recently more than doubled the staff responsible for the scoring system which provides a score for each of the URL’s visited by members. Plus, our programming staff has provided some incredible database analysis tools that will greatly improve scoring analysis.
The main complaint we get is that reports show false positives. [...]

Worth Seeing - Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed

I saw this new release over the weekend, and the only disappointment I had was in the small number of people who were there. This is worth seeing, and you really should go see it soon because it probably won’t be around long.
I am a scientist by training, and it has always bugged me that [...]

A Father-Son Relationship Strengthened Through Accountability

Recently, a Covenant Eyes member told me a story that has been repeated quite a few times over the years. It is a story of a father and a son.

The father (”Max”) and his 14-year old son (”Jeremy”) had drifted apart emotionally since Jeremy entered Junior High School. Max just felt like they had little [...]

A Perspective on Customer Service

My father-in-law died last November, and his pension was supposed to continue to his wife, my mother-in-law. No checks came until January. She deposited that check, and it quickly was sent back to the bank marked in big red letters “CANCELLED” - and her account was debited that amount, and of course was thereby overdrawn, [...]
