Today, February 12, is Safer Internet Day, organized by Insafe, a European network the promotes Internet safety awareness. “Safer Internet Day takes place each year in February and is an opportunity to dedicate some time in schools to reflect on some of the issues and more importantly to raise awareness of them” (from the Insafe website).
Accountability is one of the foundational principles of Covenant Eyes. Our software is a tool that allows people to take another step in vulnerability and honesty. What Christian men and women often think about when they hear “accountability” is a small group sitting in a circle discussing their failures and addictions. They may picture a late night phone call to another struggling brother to confess the latest blunder. An article has come to my attention that I find very interesting. It is entitled “The Porn Myth” by Naomi Wolf. Wolf is known for her 1991 book, The Beauty Myth, where she argues that women are hurt by the pressure to conform to Western culture’s concept of female beauty. The New York Times included The Beauty Myth on a list of the 70 most important books of the 20th century. Wolf is one of the premier voices of the “third wave” of the feminist movement.
As I read through some of the comments in these blogs, it occurred to me that some readers might wonder (some might even be offended) about the perspective of faith in regards to the Covenant Eyes company. So here’s a little info on that perspective. To understand the perspective, I’ll need to talk a little of our mission, our company, and the presence of statements of faith on the website.
