According to a recent study by Optenet, pornography makes up 36.21% of Web content. Coming in at a distant second is e-commerce (online shopping) at 10.84%.

Interestingly, between 2006 and 2007 pornographic content online actually decreased by 8.88%. Of the three million randomly sampled URLs, there were 1,110,429 porn sites found in 2006 and 1,011,813 found in 2007.

The bad news is that’s still a lot of porn. The other bad news is there were remarkable increases in other negative websites:

• Child Pornography increased 18.54% (from 3,210 to 3,805 sites)

• Anorexia and Bulimia increased 469.42% (from 278 to 1,583 sites)

• Violence increased 125.63% (from 2,774 to 6,259 sites)

• Racism increased 70.73% (from 1,483 to 2,532 sites)

• Drugs increased 62.36% (from 5,508 to 8,943 sites)

• Explosives increased 24.36% (from 854 to 1,062 sites)
