Pastors Find Accountability on the Internet
When I first heard the story about Michael Guglielmucci, the Australian pastor who recently confessed of his 16-year porn addiction, I was struck by how easy it can be to have a vibrant public ministry and yet also have a secret life of sin. This is especially true when it comes to lust and pornography on the Internet.
More and more pastors are finding freedom and accountability in their life through Covenant Eyes software. No longer is their Internet surfing something done in the dark. In fact, whole pastoral teams and groups of church elders are signing up for the software.
Read what some pastors are saying about Covenant Eyes accountability:
“Covenant Eyes is the first wave of defense in a person’s struggle for a pure thought life. I’ve been a member for years.”
- Mark Hall, youth pastor and lead singer of Casting Crowns
“I’ve been using Covenant Eyes for over 6 years now, and it’s an essential part of my continued recovery in this area of my life. I recommend it at conferences and to people I talk to whether they are addicts, or just need the accountability—and really who doesn’t need accountability?”
- Tal Prince, pastor of Tapestry of Hope and host of Tal Prince Live
“Covenant Eyes is a monitoring software and a filtering software (two options and two plans) that you put on your computer. I have been using this for more than 4 years.”
- Daniel Patz, Grace Church
“I strongly recommend that all youth workers use Covenant Eyes on all their computers. Even if you don’t struggle with porn, it’s wise to have that accountability and a record in place in case accusations are ever made. $7.99/month is worth it!”
- Tim Schmoyer, Alexandria Evangelical Covenant Church
“Last week I created a Covenant Eyes account for each member of my team including myself.”
- Phillip McCart, Northwood Church
“Stop looking at porn! Get accountability in this area. Do not pass go, do not collect $200, but go directly to Covenant Eyes and sign up for their accountability software.”
- Scott Miller, Pathway Assembly of God
“Covenant Eyes is a great program that all staff at Vision Baptist Church uses.”
- Scott Newton, Reformers Unanimous director at Vision Baptist Church
“Encourage your church to develop a policy concerning leaders and porn. What will your church do if it comes to light that one of your pastors has a porn addiction? What will you do if a Sunday School teacher acknowledges that they have a problem and ask for help? . . . Covenant Eyes . . . is an accountability software that monitors Internet use and emails reports to people you select. Their filter service also blocks objectionable websites from your computer. For example, Christian colleges use Covenant Eyes to keep their students accountable with their Internet choices. I love it because it makes you think before you click and therefore helps a vulnerable Christian develop the discipline to flee temptation rather than yield to it. Encourage your church to acquire this software.”
- Robert Scott, Los Angeles Community Bible Church
“I heard a terrific sermon recently on the importance of making provision for your weaknesses. The idea was drawn from Proverbs 30:26, ‘Coneys are creatures of little power, yet they make their home in the crags.’ The principle is simple: If there is an area of your life where you’re weak, like the Coney, you’ve got to find a way to cover yourself. . . . Sexual temptation is a primary weakness for men. So make provision for it. Hide yourself in the cleft of the rock. Accountability software for internet use—like Covenant Eyes—is another excellent example of the provision principle in action.”
- Steven Furtick, Elevation Church
“My wife gets all my Covenant Eyes reports. Whenever I click on a link that takes me somewhere unexpected, I pick up the phone and call her. I want her to hear things from me, not from Covenant Eyes!”
- Pastor at CityTeam Ministries
“You are part of a culture that spends more money each year on pornography than country music, rock music, jazz music, classical music, Broadway plays, and ballet combined. . . . Covenant Eyes provides software that you can download onto your computer that tracks every single link your computer follows. . . . I’ve been a customer for about five years. My close friend gets a monthly email and so does my wife. Neither one of them let’s me get away with anything. They confront me if/when I stray and don’t allow any excuses. But they also have my back in prayer. How about you? What’s your plan? Who has your back?”
- Bryon Mondok, Shepherd’s Staff Missions Facilitators

thanks for having my back…
