Covenant Eyes and Non-English Websites

This is a recent email from a man named James:

Hi there,

I just want to express my thanks to the whole team at Covenant Eyes. You are doing a wonderful job! I’m impressed by the features and updates you add on a regular basis and the technical soundness of the program. I would also like to commend all the writers who post to your blog–thanks for the regular posts and updates. It really shows that you are serious about your software and are here to stay. Please keep up the good work!

I have a question, and that is whether you are considering extending CE’s scanning and filtering capabilities to foreign-language websites. I live in Taiwan and I’m sure that the Christian community here would benefit greatly from CE. However, the screening of Chinese-language websites doesn’t seem to work as well as it does for English-language ones. Unfortunately, the amount of pornographic material available in languages such as Chinese (both the traditional form used in Taiwan and the simplified form used in China) and Japanese is tremendous.

Thank you again for your wonderful work! Praise God for using you to bless others!

Thanks for the suggestion, James.

The fact is our programmers are constantly updating the information on our servers to include more and more foreign key words. We are constantly re-scoring sites. Some sites that may have made it past our filter yesterday do not today.

James, if you are interested in assisting us with Chinese language characters, please let us know. And please send us any bad sites that you know of that should be scored higher… not only will they be evaluated for raising the score, but research into such sites enables us to identify similar sites.
