Breaking Free

This is a pretty cool story. There is a little-known feature of the Covenant Eyes program - the program can, in many cases, be used to track stolen computers. Here’s one of our member’s own words (we have enabled the recovery of quite a few stolen computers in the past):

“My laptop got stolen on 7th January by the conductor after I left it on the train! I called the train company while the train was in transit but of course it didn’t show up when the train was searched at its final destination.

“Thanks to CE and the people in tech support I was able to track the laptop the first time the thief used it online after he stole it - in a train employees’ rest hotel in South Carolina. I also followed the footsteps of the thief online and was actually able to get a picture of his face from a social networking website. I also got his IP address from CE for what was probably his home.

“Armed with this evidence the Police were easily able ID the guy from his employee file. They went to look for him where his employers had accommodated him in a hotel in DC - they made it clear that he didnt have much choice but to give up the laptop. He told them where it was and the officer drove down in person to Richmond Virginia to collect it from the
suspect’s home.

“I am now working on it as I write, and I got back almost all of my files and data and even some really important written notes that were in the laptop case.

“There is no way I could have got my laptop back without the assistance and understanding of the people at CE - thanks so much! At a difficult time, you were one source of reliable, understanding contact whenever I needed to get
updates from you of the IP address.”
