We’re in the Fight Against Pornography Together

Last Updated: April 10, 2019

Those in combat don’t ask their fellow service members what their worldviews are while engaging in battle. They have a single focus: defeating the enemy. Rather than get caught up in outlying issues, the successful side is one that combines the strengths of many to fight together and accomplish the goal.

Covenant Eyes frequently writes from a Christian perspective (both Roman Catholic and Protestant), but we work with those of various religious beliefs and those with no religious beliefs in the fight for human dignity. Our work opposes discrimination of all kinds. We do not tolerate it.

We do, however, welcome open discussion and debate. We are unified with our partners in our fight against pornography and sexual exploitation, but we may disagree in other areas. We believe we don’t have to agree on everything to be effective.

The hyper-sexualized culture we live in hurts those of all religious beliefs. The damaging effects of pornography reach every church, synagogue, mosque, and temple of all religions. It also harms those of no religious affiliation. That’s why we welcome the opinions and the help of those fighting the same enemy.

Don’t get me wrong. I do believe that the church plays a vital role in reversing this terrible trend. But the broader mores of our sex-trafficked, human-objectifying cultural terrane have a horizon well beyond the walls of one church, one group, or for that matter any one segment of society. If we are to reach that horizon, we must work together, plan together, lift each other up, challenge each other, and love each other.

It is my hope that in the future, we can have representatives of different segments of society contribute to the written resources we have. I not only accept, but fully embrace the opinions, stories, and data from those of other religions and worldviews.

Sometimes the adage is true, the enemy of my enemy is my friend. The enemy, in this case, is (at least at some level) pornography and sex trafficking.

I plan to affect culture so that pornography is taboo once again. I do know that different religions and worldviews have different approaches in the attack on pornography and sex trafficking; they attack the right flank while I try to go up the middle. But, it’s important to remember that we are all attacking the same enemy.

I will, in the quiet times in the trenches, and as a separate issue, share my religious beliefs and worldviews, gladly. And I’ll listen to yours. But when we jump out of the trenches and go into battle, I’ll be there fighting shoulder to shoulder with you.

I stand with you all as this is a call to battle……

I look forward to 2017 and beyond by surrounding myself as of 12_30_16 with the support team (my wife-my manager and some of my closest co-workers & the Vice President of my company-my Pastor and one of the Elders-and my men’s group of Accountability Partners through Celebrate Recovery) I so desperately need to make my sobriety since my on again off again relapse starting in the late fall of 2015.

I am also going to an evaluation today to determine the professional care I need to jump start my recovery.

Lets continue to pray in the spirit for one another to be authentic and open so we can confess our sins to one another and pray so we can be healed………Thanks for letting me share
