This Thanksgiving season, we reflect on the many blessings we enjoy. It allows us time to think back over the last year and see the many things we have that we often take for granted. Things like health, family, and provision. Some of us have been challenged in those areas this year, but there is always something to be thankful for.
The apostle Paul wrote in Philippians that he is not writing because he needs anything, but that whatever state he finds himself in, he has learned to be content. He wrote those words while in prison, and he still was grateful for what he had instead of complaining about what he didn’t have.
The old hymn “Count Your Blessings” encourages listeners to “name them one by one.” But with all due respect to the author of that wonderful song, I question whether that’s possible. If we were honest, none of us can name every time we have been blessed beyond what we deserve. The blessings are too many to count. Naming what we can remember is a good start, but we would have a difficult time enumerating all of them.
In that spirit, we at Covenant Eyes want to extend our gratefulness by giving.
