Porn Addiction Film Debut: Get a Sneak Preview of this New Resource
Few films are able to address the deadly ingredients of sexual sin while simultaneously not titillating the audience. Willful Entrapment stands out as a clear exception. And now, you can join their Beta Program and get a sneak peek of the film before its released.
The Beta Program
The goal of the Beta Program is to give the filmmakers constructive feedback about all the features of the DVD experience. The DVD comes not only with the complete film, but extended discussion points for small groups, expert interviews, and special messages from the filmmakers about why and how the film was made.
The director, Francois Driessen, tells me they are specifically looking for feedback from individuals who could benefit from this film in their organization, ministry, or church.
Apply for the Beta Program on the Willful Entrapment website, or better yet, tell a ministry leader about it.
About the Film
Jayson McDonald plays Alan, a quiet, unassuming bachelor whose secret obsession with pornography begins to take over his thoughts. Using dark imagery, the film rips the veil between the ordinary daily life of a casual porn consumer and the dark inner world of a mind enslaved to lust.
The primary symbolic feature of the film is a hook and thread that tethers Alan’s mind to his computer, one of the chief sources of his dirty secret. Everywhere he goes he feels the mysterious pull of the women from his virtual escapades. As Alan’s lust takes over, it seems every woman he sees becomes the canvas for his fantasies. Finally one afternoon, Alan’s friend Bernice (played by Kathy Quayle) is entangled in his lust, and he must decide whether he will give in, or cry out to God for help.
On one hand, the film is full of realism, showing how porn addiction can impact a person’s entire life: their ambitions, time, money, commitments, and closest relationships. On the other hand the film is vividly surreal, filled with rich symbolism throughout. One gets the impression that nearly every detail of the film has some deeper meaning. Edgy and dark, this short film is sort of young-Ted-Bundy-meets-The-Ring. But the film closes with a strong message of freedom.
The filmmakers’ vision was to create something of a conversation piece, to help viewers open the can of worms and talk about their own dark secrets. And they have created, in my opinion, a film with visual language as powerful and vivid as any Hollywood film.
