Covenant Eyes Closed for 3 Hours on July 25, 2011, for Marmot Day

On Monday, July 25, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., Covenant Eyes will be closed for the celebration of Marmot Day.

What is Marmot Day, you ask?

Marmot Day is similar to its sister holiday, Groundhog Day. It occurs each year on July 25th. On that day a marmot (i.e. any sort of large ground squirrel, woodchuck, whistlepig, etc.) is positioned outside of a marmot hole to deliberate whether it will enter. As ye old legend says, if the marmot goes in its hole, summer is over; if he does not, there will be six more weeks of summer. This ritual is called the “Marmot Deliberation.”

If you happen to be passing through the booming metropolis of Owosso, Michigan, stop by and say hi. There will be a picnic with free food, a bounce house, face painting, an auto show, music, and a dunk tank (which I’ve volunteered to sit in). We will also have our annual wood chucking contest.

Introducing CE Marmót: a rodent ahead of his time

CE Marmót (pronounced in a Frenchy sort of way) is the official mascot of Marmot Day. He is named after our company: Covenant Eyes (CE). Ironically, CE also stands for “Critically Endangered.” But unlike the Vancouver Island Marmot (which actually is on the Critically Endangered list), CE Marmót is not really endangered. He’s not alive at all. He is well cared-for year round at our headquarters.

You may notice from the picture that CE Marmót is a stuffed animal. Last year we placed CE on a remote-controlled car to transport him to his hole. Perhaps the friendly animal-rights folks at PETA caught word of this, because last year they requested the famous Groundhog Day celebration in Punxsutawney, PA, be conducted using an animatronic groundhog, not a living creature.

Just goes to show CE Marmót is really ahead of the game.
