2010 Retrospective: Memorable Moments on the Covenant Eyes Blog

It has been a great year on Breaking Free. We’ve had hundreds of thousands of visitors and more than 1,000 comments from our readers. I wanted to take a little trip down memory lane and hit some highlights from 2010.

. . . .

Popular Podcast Interviews

I had the privilege interviewing some wonderful people this year. Below are links to some of our most popular podcasts.

  • Trip Lee and PRo (Christian hip-hop artists) – These critically-acclaimed artists talk about why they wrote the song “Covenant Eyes” and how our software has personally helped them.
  • Shelley Lubben (ex-porn star and founder of the Pink Cross Foundation) – Shelley is a frank and powerful speaker with a story that will shock you. This four-part series was one of my personal favorites from this year. It is a hard-hitting look at the underbelly of the porn industry (listener discretion is advised).
  • Dr. Bill Struthers (author of Wired for Intimacy: How Pornography Hijacks the Male Brain) – Dr. Struthers is a neurobiologist with a unique ministry to the church. In this four-part series I ask him to explain how pornography impacts the brain.
  • Mike and Jody Cleveland (founders of SettingCaptivesFree.com) – Mike and Jody’s ministry has helped thousands of people to break free from sinful habits. They are some of the most Christ-centered ministers I’ve spoke with on our program. They spoke with us about their web courses for people struggling with pornography and their other web course for wives.
  • Dr. Larry Crabb (Christian counselor) – Dr. Crabb’s books have been a pleasure for me to read. Over the years he’s shifted from being a professional psycho-therapist to embracing a rich biblical picture of transformation and the importance of Christian community. In these interviews he talks about his book, Soul Talk: The Language God Longs to Speak to Us.
  • Jerry Bridges (bestselling author of The Pursuit of Holiness) – Mr. Bridges is rightly celebrated as one of the best spokespersons for purity and personal holiness. In this interview he speaks about the concept of “dependent responsibility” in our obedience to God.
  • Fred Stoeker (bestselling author of Every Man’s Battle) – Fred is a widely-sought speaker on the subject of sexual purity. In this interview, Fred talks about what he has learned in the last 10 years since publishing Every Man’s Battle.

More Articles for Parents

As a company we’ve been speaking more about family Internet safety. Many adults have used our Accountability and Filtering services to help them quit bad Internet habits, but we know these habits often start at a young age. We want to equip parents now to instill good habits in their kids and teens that will prepare them for the future. We’ve had many new articles for parents this year. We’ve also created a free educational webinar and an e-book.

Special Series on the Blog

  • Justice Week – We partnered with the ministry of pureHOPE to publish a series of posts and podcasts about the intersection between pornography and sex trafficking. The pureJUSTICE interns did a fantastic job helping us put together many informative posts.
  • Seven Tactics to Get Pure and Stay Pure – I had the pleasure of meeting Bob Reehm, author of The War Within, at the end of March. He kindly offered to share his years of wisdom with out readers. He creatively weaves together his knowledge of Scripture and his years of naval experience to offer a truly unique way of explaining the battles men face for sexual purity.
  • How Nakedness Affected the Fall – One of my favorite activities this year was assigning Pastor Bobby Scott ridiculously challenging writing assignments. He has a knack for practical theology that few possess. Bobby did a bang-up job on these posts about the theme of nakedness in Genesis 1-3 and how it relates to the fall of mankind.

Guest Authors with Powerful Words and Powerful Stories

We’ve received dozens of guest posts this year, but these are my personal favorites:

  • Moralism vs. Morality on the Internet - Doug Wilson is one of my favorite speakers and preachers. Our president, Ron DeHaas, had a chance to meet up with him at a conference, and Doug agreed to write up something for our blog. You can read it here: “Are Internet Filters Simply Moralism?
  • Escape from Homosexuality – Joe Dallas is a powerful voice in the ex-gay community. I spoke with him early this year, and he wanted a chance to share some of his story with us. Read his post, “Been There, Done That.”
  • Boredom and Porn – Rick James works for Campus Crusade for Christ and is the author of the very colorful and creative book, Flesh: An Unbreakable Habit of Purity in a Pornographic World. I thought some of his insights were worth printing on the blog. Read his guest article, “When Boredom Leads to Porn.”
  • Porn vs. True Beauty – Ashley Weis has become a regular author here at Breaking Free. Through her personal blog and books she has encouraged wives everywhere who are going through the hurt of betrayal due to pornography. Her first post with us was, “Yes, She’s More Beautiful Than You.”
  • Living Porn-Free – Dr. Tim Chester has written one of the best books about breaking free from the grip of pornography: Closing the Window (published in the UK as Captured by a Better Vision). He wrote up a summary of his book for our blog. Read it here: “Good News for Porn Users.”
  • Story of Freedom from Addiction – I met Jon Meengs back in February. He came to Covenant Eyes to help us out with a filming project. After watching the filming of his interview I asked him to write up his story for our blog. It has been an encouragement to so many readers. You can read it here: “My Story of Freedom from Pornography.”

Nice post, Luke. What a great idea to do a retrospective. My favorite interviews were Shelly Lubben and the one you did with Trip Lee & Pro.

    Waiting for a Lacrae interview?

  2. Jon Meengs says:

Having listened to the podcasts and read the submissions of the authors on in this list, I’m humbled to be in their company.

Thanks for the chance to share my story. Keep up the battle! This is a war we cannot lose!

    God Bless!
