Marriages Hurt by Porn
It’s no secret: Guys are tempted to look at porn online, and many guys can’t seem to stop doing it. This has created problems in the lives of many married men. Here’s one such testimony.
What can a husband and wife do in this situation?
Be willing to change. The man in this video made the brave steps of confession, to both his wife and another man at his church. This is probably the linchpin for most couples in this situation: is he willing to change? Is he willing to stop? Is she willing to support him? Are they willing to fight together for their marriage?
Find a healthy community. The couple in this video was already a part of a church community that was the type of place where people felt free to confess their struggles, failures, and journeys. This meant they were not alone.
Find air-tight accountability. This means I am willing to give a consistent account of my thoughts and actions to another person or group of people. What does this look like?
- If you can’t seem to stop looking at pornography, understand the cycle of addiction and talk with an accountability partner about each stage of that cycle.
- Get good accountability software for the computer and ask another man to receive accountability reports about where you go online. It will radically change how you surf the Internet.
