Improvement on ‘Quick Look’ Rating

Some of the information in this post is outdated. For a detailed description of how our new Web rating system works, visit here.

As I’ve mentioned in previous entries, it’s quite an awesome task trying to reduce a person’s entire Internet use over a week’s time down to one number between 0 and 5, but basically that’s what we try to do with our ‘Quick Look.’

The algorithm that accomplishes this takes into account the scores of sites you visit, the number of times you visit them, how often you visit them, how many different ones there are, etc. However, it has become apparent that our algorithm was a little too aggressive in taking into account how often sites were visited. Without going into detail, we have scaled that part of the algorithm back, so many reports will now score lower.

If you are one of those who notice this change, I would greatly appreciate any feedback.
